Celebrating 20 years in the business, this Forest Hill based not for profit continues to be a small and relentlessly determined organisation. The core of our mission is globally elevating, amplifying and spotlighting the breadth of expression in UK Jazz, while breaking down the barriers for culturally diverse artists and audiences to access the music.
Jazz re:freshed is a cultural and global movement. The sum of our parts creates something unique. This award winning team work on supporting, developing and promoting young, culturally diverse and female led emerging bands across multiple platforms. Our platforms include a weekly live residency, annual one day festival, DJ Club night, multiple local and regional partnerships and a paradigm shifting international showcasing initiative JAZZ RE:FRESHED OUTERNATIONAL, turning what was the underground element of UK Jazz into the mainstream and sought after sound.
Our Current Event Activity
50 live weekly events each year; up to 3 international projects annually delivered with our logistics partner; a one day family friendly festival; monthly DJ club night; ad-hoc local and regional activity and partnerships which we aim to incrementally increase.
Details of the Role
We are looking for an experienced Event Producer to join our small and dynamic team and take the lead on project managing and overseeing the delivery of all aspects of our local, national and international events while maintaining high quality standards and production excellence at all times. You will effortlessly work with the organisational values of creativity and cultural diversity at the core of all you do, ensuring all productions associated with jazz re:freshed are inclusive and diverse in nature.
You will have a full toolbox of skills enabling you to readily take ownership of leading, planning, building, coordinating, overseeing and delivering all aspects of Jazz re:freshed events. These will include artist/partner/venue liaison and relationship management, venue liaison, budget creation and management, PR, marketing, audience development, ticket sales set up, flyer and assets design oversight, production requirements, team management and being hands on wherever necessary.
You will also be responsible for line managing our part time Event Administrator, who looks after the weekly residency, and you’ll support their development into full event management.
We often explore new collaborations, partnerships and events. You will be an integral part of this process.
Comfortable with the inherent peaks and troughs of a project-based and deadline-driven role in a small company, you’ll be adept at working flexibly and as part of the team and supporting the Chief Execs when required. This role will form part of a radical and visionary agenda for the organisation as they move forward into a new chapter.
Because this is a relatively new role, it will also involve establishing some process and work streams needed to work optimally.
Person specification
Success in this role requires an informed understanding of the work and significance of Jazz re:freshed as a Black-led not-for-profit event promoter, record label and culturally significant movement. Because the Jazz re:freshed movement is synonymous with high quality music you must know how to produce events with a ‘music-first’ approach.
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:
- Proven and extensive experience of production planning and event management at industry and/or audience facing events in the music or cultural sector.
- A creative, problem-solving and entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to bring new thinking and an innovative approach to the role.
- A proven track record of managing relationships with artists and their teams as well as cultural and corporate partners, funders and stakeholders.
- A good knowledge of digital technology and its application in the arts.
- A working knowledge of PR, marketing and digital media experience writing reports and managing feedback and evaluations.
- An ability to work to deadlines and to budget.
- An ability to work well in unfamiliar and high-pressure environments.
