Collettivo Immaginario is a funk-infused instrumental jazz trio best known for captivating audiences from LA to Milan with their fresh blend of modern beats and 70’s electronica. Formed by Tommaso Cappellato (drums and percussion), Nicolò Masetto (electric bass) and Alberto Lincetto (rhodes, piano and synths), Collettivo Immaginario’s slick sound and energetic live performances have made them a rising star of the festival scene in their native Italy.
Their style is firmly rooted in the jazz tradition of collective improvisation, through which they have developed an agile, kaleidoscopic sound. Their music channels West African rhythms alongside upbeat American grooves, while subtly paying homage to genre-bending giants such as Azymuth, Lonnie Liston Smith, Herbie Hancock, Hermeto Pascoal and Italian film music composers Piero Piccioni and Piero Umiliani.
Since their debut performance in Los Angeles in 2019, the trio has answered the call from toe-tapping audiences on both sides of the Atlantic to capture their on-stage magic on record, starting with their single, “Closer To The Sun” (featuring Chauncey Yearwood), which was released on First Word Records in the same year. 2022 will see the trio spread their wings and showcase their musical dexterity on their first full-length album, “Trasforma”, to be released on Cappellato’s Los Angeles-based imprint, Domanda Music.
