If you don’t know the name Darryl Reeves, then we don’t know where you have been. We have been banging on about this Saxophonist for a while now. As you can imagine, we hear a lot of new music, some of it good and some of it… not so good. Occasionally, we hear something that we rate highly, very highly indeed, as is the case with rising star Darryl Reeves.
Hailing from Atlanta, GA, Reeves has toured and recorded with notable artists including Robert Glasper, Roy Ayers, Frank McComb, Julie Dexter, Kirk Whalum, Jill Scott, Angie Stone and most recently, Janelle Monae., It was however, his 2012 released album ‘Mercury’ (our favourite album of 2012 incidentally) that brought him to our attention. ‘Mercury’ tips its hat to Jazz-Funk inspired by Herbie Hancock and other 1970s Jazz musicians, although it keeps a modern and fresh feel that sets it apart from being simply a tribute to that era.

If you haven’t got it yet we recommend that you do – you won’t be disappointed – purchase it here.
So, when we heard that Darryl was working on a tribute to J Dilla we knew it was going to be of the highest standard… but don’t take our word for it, judge for yourselves – you can listen to it here.
