Anita baker – THE SONGSTRESS – is (unfortunately for a lot of singers) the bench mark that I measure most singers by. I know, I know… this is not fair… but what can I do eh?
So you know how I hold Anita in the highest esteem, well, before I pressed play on this clip for the first time, I paused for a millisecond, but, in that time I felt a waft of fear come over me. I ashamedly began to doubt her. I mean, it’s been a while since I’ve seen her perform. Will she be one of those legends that tries to make a come back and sings some weak HIP-HOP/R&B tune for the youngsters and leaves me feeling like i just watched my mum singing a duet with Lil Wayne whilst dressed like Nicki Minaj? I’m sweating just thinking about it…
Anyway.
