jazz?
Most people tend to accept the definitions given to them by the media or popular press which define jazz music as an easy listening, stuck-in-the-past music form - this couldn't be further from the truth.
The truth is, jazz has as many definitions as there are people listening to it. Borne out of oppression, revolution and a need to express the black experience, jazz has always been the most progressive, boundary pushing and relevant black music artform, cutting paths for all popular music forms.
Although jazz music has been a constant force in music since it's conception, more recently, in its various forms it has experienced a resurgence amongst the younger generations. In recent years, the quality of the artists and the music being produced around the world, not to mention the diversity and depth, has been prolific and of the highest standard. The UK scene is of no exception and has been awash with serious talent, taking the music to new places and beyond.
Everything that's fresh about jazz is hopefully reflected in the philosophy and delivery of Jazzre:freshed and its projects - the colour, the creativity, the artistry, the boundless expression... this extends to the visual presentation and use of art & imagery within the movement. From the promotional art, to photography, to the exhibitions hosted, etc...
The important thing is to keep reflecting the ever evolving, ever progressive, ever creative faces of jazz music, as well as paying tribute to the great genres of the past.
